Man Woman Wild…

20 September, 2010

I used to watch this show called World’s Most Extreme Homes. The host was cool, she was cute and British and made the show more interesting.

I’ve often wondered whatever happened to her, as she was a good host I assumed she was doing something in Britain and I wasn’t able to see it/hear about it.

Well, the host was none other than Ruth England and I’ve just learned that she is part of the husband-wife team that hosts Man Woman Wild on Discovery Channel. This is cool, as she is a cool lady. I am now a bigger fan of this show than before. I was always more of the Man Vs. Wild kind of guy, but I can fit this into my schedule.

Walking Dead…

25 August, 2010

This is the new trailer for “The Walking Dead” from Frank Darabond, dude who directed Shawshank Redemption. Am I the only one getting a 28 Days Later vibe from the first half of the trailer? I’m not saying its a total rip off, its from a graphic novel, but 28 Days Later did this concept perfectly 8 years ago. Regardless, I will be watching the premier on AMC on Halloween. Scratch that, I’ll be watching it the next day with a hangover.

Doctor Who Isn’t Sci Fi…

4 May, 2010

According to Terry Pratchett (I don’t know who he is, either), a a British novelist and writer,

People say Doctor Who is science fiction. At least people who don’t know what science fiction is, say that Doctor Who is science fiction. Star Trek approaches science fiction. The horribly titled Star Cops which ran all too briefly on the BBC in the 1980s was the genuine pure quill of science fiction, unbelievable in some aspects but nevertheless pretty much about the possible. Indeed, several of its episodes relied on the laws of physics for their effect (I’m particularly thinking of the episode “Conversations With The Dead”).

Intelligent…

James Wolcott, culture critic for Vanity Fair, has a really interesting article about the effects of reality TV on society. Its a little dramatic at times, but well-written and stimulating.

The thin-skinned, martyred pride, the petulant, self-centered psychodrama—she was playing the scene as if a camera crew were present, recording her wailing solo for the highlight reel. Proof, perhaps, that the ruinous effects of Reality TV have reached street level and invaded the behavioral bloodstream, goading attention junkies to act as if we’re all extras in their vanity production. There was a time when idealistic folksingers such as myself believed that Reality TV was a programming vogue that would peak and recede, leaving only its hardiest show-offs. Instead, it has metastasized like toxic mold, filling every nook and opening new crannies. Idiocracy, Mike Judge’s satire about a future society too dumb to wipe itself, now looks like a prescient documentary.

Say it isn’t true… Katie and Peter have split? My life is over. There were many a late night where I would stay up watching random-ass marathons of these two beautiful retards on E!…

I’m not jealous of anybody until Katie is drunk… The devil gets inside her and she’s a nightmare. I trust her when she’s sober but I don’t trust her when she’s drinking,” Andre justified to reporters.

“Katie has everything she could ever want — look at our beautiful children. She’s got a multi-million pound career and a dream home. But it’s like she is insistent on pressing the self-destruct button. She is the most lovely woman when she is being just herself and I will always love her. But in the end, it all got too much to handle,”

At least he sounds honest…
