Not Really a Shocker…

15 January, 2010

So, No Distance Left To Run, a film about Blur, premiered last night and I have to say I’m genuinely perplexed as to why films can’t be released in other countries at the same time still. I mean, we live in the year 2010 and I still can’t get my hands on District B 13: Ultimatum or this movie?

I went to school for film, I understand the business end of it all, etc. but, come one!

Anyway, apparently Damon Albarn finally revealed why they released Country House at the same time as Roll With It.

Blur clear up one old mystery – saying it was Damon’s decision to release single Country House against Roll With It by Oasis.

The biggest chart battle of the decade became the defining moment of Brit pop – and Blur got the No1.

Damon says he did it to get back at Noel Gallagher. He recalled: “Noel used to take the p*** out of me constantly and it really, really hurt at the time. Oasis were like the bullies I had to put up with at school.”

Dude, Harsh…

Graham Coxon, the guitar player for Blur and a fellow fan of this woman, recently revealed how he felt during the Blur/Oasis “battle” of the 90’s.

Graham Coxon has spoken about the fallout from Blur Britpop tussle with Oasis.

The guitarist says he felt so bad when ‘Country House’ beat ‘Roll With It’ to Number One in the UK singles chart in the summer of 1995 that he had to be talked out of jumping from a sixth floor window by Damon Albarn.

“It felt like a hollow, pointless victory to me,” Coxon told the Daily Mail. “Our record company threw a big champagne party at Soho House in London. I felt I was being forced into enjoying the moment and I just wanted to be alone really.

“I couldn’t handle being part of that crowd so I tried to jump out of a sixth-storey window. It was Damon (Albarn) who talked me out of it. Looking back, I should have enjoyed myself a lot more than I did during the Blur days”.

Maybe it was because the “rivalry” was pretty much cooked up by the media? Coxon goes on to say that he once stole sausage from a butcher in the late 90’s “The butcher saw me and gave chase. He finally caught up with me outside Woolworths and gave me a very firm punch in the jaw. I suppose I was asking for it but I didn’t care at the time. I wouldn’t have cared if he had hacked my arm off with a chicken’s beak. Also, I happened to be wearing a denim skirt and there was a bus-load of people watching. It wasn’t my proudest moment.”

Awesome…

Graham Coxon’s solo career is… cool… i guess… I definitely think that, much like Lennon and McCartney, he was best teamed with someone like Damon Albarn. I have two of his albums and I listen to them if I feel like I need straightforward rocknroll or something but they’re not my favorites. That is until now. I now know that Graham and I share a mutual infatuation for the girl that he wrote this song about (hint – she was in A Knight’s Tale). After seeing her picture on the internet. And, that is cool.
