Liam’s Gem: 5/29/09

These days, all the geezers in bands wanna look like women. Like, why’s everyone in bands wearing braces? If you’re gonna wear braces, try buying a pair of jeans that fit. The worst dressed band have got to be Coldplay. What are those uniforms about? My kids have got play outfits that are better than Coldplay’s. I mean, if you’re gonna win a Grammy Award, don’t turn up looking like binmen! Disgraceful. Make a bit of effort, I say.

Cool…

I am not too fond of newer British bands (actually, most new bands in general…), but these guys are fucking sweet. What is it with Manchester bands? They have like a 9 out of 10 chance of being good by just picking up instruments and playing randomly. That, and these guys seem to get the whole rock aesthetic thing like other Manc bands. They look like they care…

Dear God…

Notice anything weird about that pedal in the middle there? I think I just threw up in my mouth a little…

LOS ANGELES – An openly gay teen was voted prom queen at Los Angeles’ Fairfax High School in a campaign that began as a stunt but ended up spurring discussion on the campus about gender roles and teen popularity. Sergio Garcia, 18, was crowned queen Saturday night at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

“I feel invincible,” Garcia said in his tiara and charcoal-gray tuxedo.

A few days earlier, he gave a speech that won over some cynics and led to an ovation and his unlikely victory.

“At one time, prom may have been a big popularity contest where the best-looking guy or girl were crowned king and queen. Things have changed and it’s no longer just about who has the most friends or who wears the coolest clothes,” Garcia told a gymnasium full of seniors. “I’m not your typical prom queen candidate. There’s more to me than meets the eye.”

Hey, whatever makes people happy I always say. But, kid, about that last part… How isn’t this about politics? And, dude, you’re gay. You definitely have friends and most certainly have a leg up on fashion/clothes…

The Genius Continues… Sort Of…

Kanye was recently qoted as saying:

“I am not a fan of books. I would never want a book’s autograph. I am a proud non-reader of books. I like to get information from doing stuff like actually talking to people and living real life.”

I can see where he’s coming from… But that could have been worded a little more eloquently…

Hahaha…

BoingBoing.net posted this article on Crohn’s Disease…

Crohn’s disease is a painful immune disorder that causes people’s intestines to swell. Some researchers say that the intestines of Crohn sufferers reject the bacteria normally needed for proper functioning. The prescribed treatments have horrible side effects, including cancer and brain infections.
Some people with Crohn’s are electing to be infected with parasitic hookworms instead.

In order to live as a parasite inside the human, the parasite must convince the host’s immune system to chill and not try to reject it. With hookworms, they secrete a chemical that distracts the immune system, dampening down its response. Hookworms are common in undeveloped countries, places where inflammatory bowel disease is rare.
In the United States, thanks to advances in modern sanitation techniques, hookworms are rare but immune disorders on the rise.

Is there a connection? There could be. “As we have made things more hygienic,” Dr. Terdiman explained, “we may in fact be precipitating an outbreak or an increase in the frequency of these immune disorders.”

Worm Therapy is a company that uses hookworms and tapeworms to modulate the immune system. A single dose of hookworms costs $2,399 and tapeworms (used for weight loss, asthma and allergy) cost $1,299.

Well, damn…

Beulah v Oasis…

26 May, 2009

Well, its more like Beulah should be defending themselves…

I know Noel is known for “borrowing” and being “heavily influenced” by other songs/artists but these two really do sound similar and I don’t know why no one else has drawn the same comparison…

Oh, Chris…

26 May, 2009

Chris Martin is a pretty humble and honest guy. I’d like to think that if I ever got famous he and I would be the people at a Grammy after-party sitting in the corner talking about Echo and The Bunnymen and making fun of other people.

Anyway, he had this to say about Lily Allen:

“Lily Allen is fantastic. She’s one of those people who is so cool that whenever I meet her I feel like I’m back at school and none of the girls like me anymore. She has the ability to make any boy feel like a tosser.”

I can only imagine…

This is the second half of an interview from Singapore. The first half was more fluff and promotion but this half is really profound. Especially for anyone trying to be as big as Oasis…

Hilarious…

22 May, 2009

I was perusing, and I’m a bit embarrassed to admit, for Noel Gallagher fashion ideas and I found this little idea from ehow.com on making a Gallagher Brother Halloween Costume:

For Noel:
Begin by purchasing a soccer jersey. This can be a cheap generic jersey. Try to find a jersey with one main color. If you cannot, though, it doesn’t matter as you’ll have a jacket over the jersey.

Buy sunglasses with colored lenses. The lenses should be the same color as the main color of the soccer jersey. The size of the lenses don’t really matter as Noel has been seen wearing all types of sunglasses in the past. You can also wear an untied scarf around our neck. Even though the scarf is more of a “Liam thing,” Noel has also been seen wearing one occasionally. If you do choose to wear a scarf, make sure it’s the same color as the jersey and lenses of the sunglasses…

Carry around a guitar and, if you can, play some Oasis songs from time to time. Noel is the guitar playing brother, after all. A basic acoustic guitar will be fine for your Halloween costume.

For Liam:

When being Liam Gallagher for Halloween, your jacket should be zipped up or closed more than Noel’s. Wear either a T-shirt from one of your favorite bands (The Beatles would be appropriate) or a plain white T-shirt underneath for when times when the jacket is open.

Find sunglasses with large, circular colored lenses. The color doesn’t really matter as Liam often mixes and matches the colors of his wardrobe.

Wow…

This from the company started by two ex-hippies that dropped acid all the time in the seventies…

Basically, this is the message that the people who make Eucalyptus got when they submitted their application. This application gives people access to PUBLIC DOMAIN books, some of which may have references to sex. Also, these are books people can buy with the KINDLE app anyway…

Ya, that makes sense…

Thank you for submitting Eucalyptus — classic books, to go. to the App Store. We’ve reviewed Eucalyptus — classic books, to go. and determined that we cannot post this version of your iPhone application to the App Store because it contains inappropriate sexual content and is in violation of Section 3.3.12 from the iPhone SDK Agreement which states:

“Applications must not contain any obscene, pornographic, offensive or defamatory content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, etc.), or other content or materials that in Apple’s reasonable judgement may be found objectionable by iPhone or iPod touch users.”

And I loved you, too, Apple…

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Thursday praised an Army soldier in eastern Afghanistan who drew media attention this month after rushing to defend his post from attack while wearing pink boxer shorts and flip-flops.

In fact, Gates said he wants to meet the soldier and shake his hand the next time he visits Afghanistan.

“Any soldier who goes into battle against the Taliban in pink boxers and flip-flops has a special kind of courage,” Gates said in remarks prepared for a speech in New York.

“I can only wonder about the impact on the Taliban. Just imagine seeing that: a guy in pink boxers and flip-flops has you in his cross-hairs. What an incredible innovation in psychological warfare,” he said.

That is pretty hilarious, and cool.

Having read an interview with Tom Clarke from The Enemy apparently Oasis are past it? Do you want to go on 1st or what you little fucker?

The douche from The Enemy does know that Indie bands are a dime a dozen and no one knows who they are outside of the UK, right?

Awesome…

Today, I opened my mailbox and, to my surprise, it was like Christmas. Not only did a movie from my netflix queue arrive, but there was my new issue of This Old House, a coupon for free delivery for pizza (ok, that’s a stretch) and my Johnny Marr and The Healers CD has arrived.

To put it simply, Johnny Marr is already awesome, throw in Zak Starkey and that dude from Kula Shaker and you have something that blows my mind. Boomslang sounds like the missing link between early Oasis and Heathen Chemistry Oasis. Its great.

Today’s Stark-Note…

19 May, 2009

Zach Starkey was recently interviewed about playing with the Who and Oasis and he had nothing but nice things to say about both. Since Noel has been MIA I figured this would be a good quote…

“Liam, Noel, Gem and Andy are some of the smartest musicians I’ve ever met,” he continued. “In fact, they’re the most inspiring band I’ve ever worked with. I played with Oasis for four years and literally spent every day crying with laughter. Those lads are on it and that’s why they’re fucking massive.”

I wish they would let Ed play more cool stuff. Or actually, I wish the people filming these appearances would show Ed doing the cool stuff he does. Radiohead isn’t just Thom and Johnny, you know…
